It's a Teambuilding event. It's a sports event.
It's highly instructive. It's unforgetably fun.
It's head-to-head,
toe-to-toe, face-to-face, person-to-person, team-to-team
competition. Based on real, official, television-worthy sports. And it's all for fun. For everyone.
Regardless of ability or age or salary. Sales, marketing,
manufacturing. Spouses. Kids. Executives, even.
OK, what is it
really?
Junkyard Sports®
Teambuilding Events are first and foremost
fun. And when people have fun together, new bonds are formed and the
team grows stronger.
There's no discrimination
between players because there is no demand to perform.
People get to
play together. A lot. They get to play creatively. They get to play
competitively. They get to make up new ways to play together. As long as
it is fun for everyone. Regardless of age, ability, race, rank,
or salary.
And yet they find
themselves giving their all, getting to be the star players
in a new, never-before-been-played sport that they invented
together.
So, how does it work?
First,
people work together to figure out how to make a bunch of
junk (usually socks and pantyhose) serve as the equipment
for a team sport.
Next,
people play in teams against other teams. They play
competitively and compete in the games they and the other
teams created.
Finally, people
sit back, relax, eat junk food and give each other awards and talk about
what they learned from the game. Food? Why, junk food, of course.
Awards? Hand made, actually out of, you guessed it, junk. Learn? About
themselves and their team, about how to make and keep things more fun
and yet stay focused and productive, about being and working together.
What
do they come up with? How about Toilet-paper Sockput or
Simultaneous Croquet or 3 Team Handless Volleyball?
Anything that turns out to be fun enough, for everyone.
Junkyard Sports®
Events can be developed for almost any number of people for a couple hours
or more. As a teambuilding event or part of a company wide celebration.
Including just about anything fun and junky you can imagine: junk bands,
junk food, junk artists, junk sculpture-building, junk juggling.
Perfect teambuilding for: annual
meetings, sales events, conventions, board retreats, association meetings,
strategy and planning, incentive meetings, celebrations, company picnics,
and company or client thank-you's...a fabulous way to break down barriers,
encourage new forms of communication, and change long held perceptions by
playing and seeing each other in a different, and often very funny light.
"They loved it! It was a great way to get people up and talking and working together first thing in the morning. I think it would also be an awesome session right after lunch at any conference. It was very easy to implement. Golf was also a great game for a large ballroom and it worked well for the space we had."

Team Two (skins) sought inspiration
from whatever found objects we could, um, find. There were
these Back Jack floor chairs (legless chairlike things that
support your back when your sitting on the floor), and, of
course, our vast collection of socks. After remarkably little
deliberation, we arrived at a game of simultaneous Team Back
Jack Croquet, with sockballs, as illustrated in the video on
the left.
