Personality and the Team

Few people realize how important our individual personalities are to team functioning. Many of the problems associated with team development stem directly from the interplay between the various personality types. This team building program will walk through the different personality types, strengths and weaknesses for a team.

Some of the more typical problems are:
  • members who dominate discussions
  • difficulty bringing discussions and projects to closure
  • difficulty reaching agreements
  • too much or too little detail during analysis
  • constant friction over "our differences"
  • too much or too little structure in the team operation
  • conflict that continues to surface
  • lack of respect between team members

The best teams contain a balance of all personality types, but in the real world this rarely occurs, resulting the problems above. This team building program turns conflict into new levels of collaboration by teaching team members how to use their differences in constructive ways. Because of the insights learned by participants, this session has remained one of our most popular.

Prior to the team building session, we assess each participant using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), one of the oldest and most respected personality instruments. A unique profile and booklet are developed for each participant with useful and practical information specifically designed for them.

The 4-hour workshop combines interesting lecture, stimulating exercises, and enlightening discussion in a way that simplifies the understanding of our personalities and gives practical direction on how to use the information immediately.

I’d like to thank you and your team for the service you provided in preparation and throughout the month of June. Finding you guys on the Internet was amazing to me and then learning your team had experience in doing exactly what I needed blew me away. I definitely was a happy camper! Also, your team responding the way they did with what I felt was very short notice showed awesome support!

I can’t express how pleased I was with Ray, Nance, and Brian! They are good people! I thoroughly enjoyed the interactions, conversations, and watching them do what they do. Ray’s knowledge of Myers-Briggs was exceptional and people learned a ton about themselves and their teammates due to him.

We have seen a notable change in the attitudes and behaviors of our teams due to the June event. I’m consistently hearing how people are behaving differently, more positive, and working better together. It appears the event accomplished exactly what we were shooting for and I want to thank Teambuilding, Inc. for your role your team played in this success.

The training was phenomenal.  I have gotten nothing but positive feedback regarding the quality of the instruction and the materials presented to us.  Everyone wants to have their spouse, best friend, and son/daughter typed! It truly was a success and I thank you so much for accommodating our agency.  It is rare that we are afforded the opportunity to benefit from trainings usually utilized within the corporate sector.

TURNING TEAM PERFORMANCE INSIDE OUT:  Team Types and Temperament For High-Impact Results
by Susan Nash

Through our experience with teams, we have found that personality plays a key role in team member relationships. It's a critical piece of the team performance puzzle. In this new offering, Nash puts a useful spin on teamwork by using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) to fine tune team performance. The book explains how a team profile is constructed from individual profiles and applies the results to five elements of team effectiveness: strategy; role definition; communication; team flexibility; and, leadership.
