Comedy Improv
Overview
Improvisation is the art of being in the moment. It is two or more
people working together to achieve a unique and unexpected result. This
ability to create something out of almost nothing is derived from
actively listening and working together.
The roots of improv date back to sixteenth century theater as a form of
problem solving within an unscripted situation. In modern times, the
same applies –improv provides a common set of approaches to better
prepare for the unexpected.
Often times in business we find ourselves stuck in a rut or producing
based on the same ol’, same ol’. Meetings seem to take the same path and
brainstorming sessions end with more frustrations than new ideas. Ever
notice how the same people keep coming up with the same ideas?
Working as a team is a key component to success in the workplace.
Whether you work alone or in groups, at some point or another, you will
need to collaborate with another person or department to have your needs
met. Trust between these “teams” is the foundation for all
collaboration.
The
Workshop:
Each workshop consists of carefully selected improv exercises, where the
participants become the improvisers in a dynamic, on-your-feet
atmosphere. For example, an exercise called “One Word Story” requires a
group to make up a story, one person adding a single word at a time. The
challenge is to work together to build an interesting and coherent story
line. Of course, this is a very simple exercise in what becomes a more
complex program.
Between exercises our trainers pose engaging, interactive questions
designed to build clear connections and associations between the group’s
experience and key issues that are vital to the goals of your
organization.
In the end, participants will come together as a team with increased
group confidence and trust, maximize skills for brainstorming and idea
generation, eliminate “creative blocking”, think better on their feet,
be more effective and powerful with presentation of ideas, (pause to
catch your breath…) possess improved responsiveness to clients, feel
more comfortable in unexpected situations, have stronger commitment to
their ideas and increase speed and flexibility in pressure situations.
Yes, all of this from improv!
