The 4 Hats Leaders Wear

Most leadership workshops have serious weaknesses as it relates to the goal of having participants apply what they learn to the job. A common criticism from participants is that they are strong on theory but weak on skill development. In addition, the examples that are used to reinforce concepts are generally people from history (Presidents, Generals, leaders of movements – Abraham Lincoln, Robert E. Lee, Martin Luther King) or retired executives, from multi-national organizations who have written books based on their experiences. Sadly, too many participants in seminars leave believing that they are less capable than the examples and/or lack the necessary charisma attributed to these “celebrity leaders.”

Mission
The purpose for this skill based learning process is to strengthen leadership performance. We will achieve this goal by ensuring that participants increase their commitment to being a leader resulting from the development of a plan to promote personal and team accountability.

ObjectivesBy the end of the seminar the participants will:

  • Become more mindful of their role as leader and the impact their behavior has on others
  • Develop a strategy that strengthens team focus and cohesion
  • Master a technique that will prevent grand plans from “falling through the cracks”
  • Demonstrate a skill that is guaranteed to increase employee attitude and contribution

StrategyWe will achieve our objectives by:

  • Positioning the process to ensure a distinction between most leadership workshops and the challenges that confront “non-celebrity” leaders
  • Enabling each participant to highlight specific situations that are limiting their leadership effectiveness at work
  • Encouraging each leader to recognize the need to move beyond personal comfort zones in order to achieve big-picture success
  • Ensuring that each attendee becomes a engaged, highly active, and challenging training participant
  • Creating a process that requires participants to apply their plans and skills on the job

TacticsOur methodologies to insure success include:

  • A participant workbook that becomes an individual action plan for each attendee
  • Large group discussions
  • Small group conversations
  • Paired coaching activities
  • Skill demonstration
  • Action plan development
