You Take the Cake! - The Program
Baking a cake is the perfect metaphor for teamwork. But even better, the cake itself becomes the symbol of the team itself.

When your group enters the room, they will be greeted with an onscreen presentation that is meant to inspire and encourage. Each picture is more spectacular than the next….cake after award-winning cake, we set the bar high. A taste of classical music in the background and colored table cloths to spice up the room and we’re ready to go.

Imagine the creativity, teamwork, and effective communication that are required to design and decorate a cake that symbolize the team itself. Now, you don’t have to imagine… You Take the Cake! lets your group learn and play together.

Each person is issued an apron and a chef hat. In groups of approximately five participants, individuals will decorate their chef’s hat with their newly selected team name and desired appearance. Then the real fun begins... Each group is challenged to create a cake that symbolizes the team itself. Will they create an orchestra that represents the harmony of their group all playing the same music or a race car that represents the speed at which the group is working together to achieve its goals?

Each group is issued a large sheet cake that will be carved into their model. With a variety of cake design supplies and assorted cake decorations, the group will turn their concept into reality. After the cake is designed, they will create a commercial to present their cake to the entire group. And last but not least, participants will enjoy their creations.

Learning is the icing on the cake:
After decorating the cakes, we will debrief the experience and relate the cake decorating process to real-world business challenges. Participants will discover:

The team dynamics that are needed to be innovative in a team environment

The key phases of the creative process

The team roles that lead to innovation

The power of an effective leader in generating creative solutions and implementing action plans

Add-On
Extend your half-day of training to a full day by helping your team members understand each other (and themselves) better by learning about their personalities and styles. The personality work uses the DISC instrument to enlighten team members with new insights about themselves and how they operate with others. A wonderful addition to the You Take the Cake! session: Taking Flight with DISC
